For ‘Lucid Mind’ I was inspired by two stages of the subconscious mind: Sleep Paralysis & Lucid Dreams. These contrasting dream worlds are created by our own mind, reflected in extremes like beauty and imperfection, serenity and chaos, control and freedom.
I translated the poetical character and the loose feeling of these dreams into symmetrical patterns on the weaving machine at the Textielmuseum Tilburg. Further on, I translated this into curved embroideries made of different sorts of glass beads.
Cards from the Rorschach (or Inkblob)-test of the Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach served as inspiration. I was fascinated by Rorschach who used the unique characteristics of an individual as a guiding principle for his method.
